UMOJA in America is a work composed for SATB divisi chorus. Commissioned by the U.S. Army Field Band and Soldiers’ Chorus, the work features text calling for unity in our great nation. Despite the climate, our strength will always be in our ability to unite for a common purpose. As the country continues to evolve, this work calls for us to respect the cultural and social differences we have, to listen to, support, and embrace one another. 

This work is a call to action, for us to strive for togetherness, especially when it’s not easy. I am because we are. UMOJA in America. Harkening back to Dr. King’s dream of equality, community, and justice, the work encourages us to empathize and understand.
